Science, innovation and sustainability for agricultural development in Latin America

The Latin American Foundation for the Support of Teaching, Research, and Development of Poultry Science (FLAVIA – Fundación Latinoamericana de Apoyo a la Enseñanza, Investigación y Desarrollo de la Ciencia Avícola) is a private, non-political, and nonprofit civil organization based in Colombia with active participation in countries such as Mexico, Brazil, and other Latin American nations.

With a transnational focus, FLAVIA promotes the integration of knowledge, the exchange of experiences, and scientific cooperation in key areas for sustainable development:

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION

  1. Contribute to the development of poultry, agroindustrial, and environmental science and technology in the country.
  2. Promote poultry research at the regional, national and international levels.
  3. Encourage inter-institutional collaboration in research, education, strengthening and development of Poultry Science, agribusiness and environmental protection in the country.
  4. Carry out and promote interdisciplinary efforts by applying scientific mechanisms of research, consulting and training for the development of Poultry Science, agribusiness and the environment.
  5. Contribute to the protection of biodiversity through environmental actions, the identification and establishment of natural reserves and the promotion of sustainable development processes at regional and national levels.
  6. Advise individuals, institutions, and public and private administrations in the formulation and implementation of development plans and programs in poultry farming, agribusiness, and the environment through scientific, technological and interdisciplinary research.
  7. Design and develop work programs, research lines and projects related to poultry farming, agribusiness and the environment.
  8. Serve as a channel for mobilizing resources at national and international levels to enable the planning and execution of research, education and outreach activities within the stated areas.
  9. Establish partnerships and alliances with responsible and related entities to define policies and exchange experiences with national and international institutions.
  10. Design and support formal and informal continuing education programs for undergraduate and graduate students specializing in the area, whether national or international.
  11. Create a national and international network around Poultry Science, agribusiness and the environment.
  12. Generate and promote spaces dedicated to research and advanced experimentation with poultry, agroindustrial and environmental projects.
  13. Plan and carry out educational events such as workshops, seminars, exhibitions, conferences, forums and panels in collaboration with related training institutions.
  14. Create, promote, publish, distribute and sell products that enable the dissemination of knowledge in Poultry Science, agribusiness and the environment, such as books, magazines, recordings, videos, CDs, etc.
  15. Enter into special cooperation agreements with nations and its decentralized entities, with individuals and private organizations, to carry out scientific and technological activities, research projects and the creation of technologies in the Foundation’s specific fields of action.
  16. Propose, design, plan and implement agroindustrial and environmental projects that contribute to comprehensive development at local, regional, national and international levels.
